Mount Vesuvius, Italy

Mount Vesuvius

is an active volcano in southern Italy, famous for its catastrophic A.D. 79 eruption that buried the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. It is the only active volcano on Europe's mainland and is considered one of the world's most dangerous due to the three million people living nearby. Its last eruption occurred in 1944.

I went to mount Vesuvius in the early months of 2025, I went with my brother and parents. For the most part, a car journey is required to reach the start the hike. When you arrive at the start, there are Cades and gift shops to indulge in.

The best time to visit Mount Vesuvius is no doubt early or late months of the year, as that is when tourism is not as high and the temperature is almost ideal.

Mount Vesuvius is busiest during the summer months, specifically from June to August, due to warm weather and school holidays. July and August are the most crowded months overall. For fewer crowds, visit during the spring (April-June) or fall (September-October), which are considered the "shoulder seasons"
